Middle finger

Sometimes art speaks, other times it screams.  The latter is true of much of Maurizio Cattelan‘s art, a famed contemporary artist whose work is quite comfortable with controversy.  Cattelan’s latest work was recently unveiled in Milan’s piazza affari, just feet from the Italian stock exchange building.  Upon its unveiling, you can guess how the Milanese political elite responded– the middle finger statue was to be removed just seven days after it was shown to the world, leaving an empty stump under this 12-foot marble middle finger.  Those seven days will be quite glorious, we’d love to see the looks on the faces of the finance industry as it ceases work to enter the piazza.
